Mental illness

Mental illness includes a broad range of conditions that impact thinking, feeling, and mood, and may impact a person’s ability to interact with others and function on a daily basis. Mental illness includes bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and addictive behaviors, among others.

Physical Disabilities

Physical disabilities describe limitations to a person’s physical functioning, mobility, dexterity, or stamina. They include cerebral palsy, amputation, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and musculoskeletal injuries, as well as respiratory disorders, blindness, hearing loss, and epilepsy, among others.

Brain Injury

Brain injury occurs when external trauma, such as a blow to the head, causes damage to the brain. Brain injury can be mild, moderate, or severe, and the resulting disabilities depend on the severity and location of the injury, as well as the age and health of the person who sustained it.

Developmental disabilities describe impairments in physical development, learning, language, or behavior. They include (but are not limited to) attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Tourette’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, hearing or vision loss, and intellectual disability.
